Who We Are
The Susquehannock State Forest is one of the largest and most remote state forests in Pennsylvania. If you enjoy the outdoors and getting away from it all this may be the place for you. The Susquehannock offers hiking trails, mountain biking trails, ATV trails, Horseback riding trails, snowmobile trails and XC ski trials. We also have some of the best native trout fishing in PA. We are a headwaters area and all of our headwaters streams are native brook trout waters. We also have some great hunting on the Susquehannock from large game like bear, turkey and deer to small game such as grouse, squirrels and rabbits. We offer primitive camping with no amenities for both tent and rv‘s.
For more information visit the Susquehannock State Forest website and Facebook page.
Located on the Allegheny Plateau in the northcentral Pennsylvania. Forest is dominated by Allegheny Hardwoods (Black Cherry) and Northern Hardwood forests. This area is home to some of the highest quality hardwood timber in the world and specifically is known for its high-quality Black Cherry. The forest is home to the headwaters of many exceptional quality watersheds that support abundant native brook trout populations. The area also has the geology that supports the storage of natural gas for consumers to use during times of high demand. This area’s gas storage fields provide gas to the major metropolitan areas of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

What We Do
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry manages our state forests for their long-term health and productivity while conserving native wild plants.
These forests are managed as “working forests” and provide a suite of uses and values to Pennsylvania citizens, while maintaining the forest’s wild character.
Our state forests are managed for:
- Pure water
- Recreation
- Scenic beauty
- Plant and animal habitat
- Sustainable timber and natural gas
- Many other uses and values
The management of our state forests is guided by the State Forest Resource Management Plan.
