Volunteer Position Title: Adopt a Beach

 

Site: Presque Isle State Park

 

Position Description:

Will be provided with clean-up supplies such as bags and gloves Can choose a favorite beach location or be assigned one by the park Educator You should be able to walk on sandy beach and pick up litter and record each piece of litter on a data card that will be provided to you and check off each item. Put the bags of litter in a dumpster or leave the bag along the road for maintenance to pick up Please return any items such as clipboards, pencils, extra bags and gloves, and the data card

 

Time Requirements: Adopt a beach dates are Saturdays May 2, June 6, July 11, August 15, and October 17 of 2026. Each session runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm You can pick up litter for an hour or all three if you choose

 

Skills/Training: You will be shown your location on a park map Able to fill out a data card which will be returned to the Educator when you’re finished You must be able to drive to your location or have a means to get to your location

Site: Tom Ridge Environmental Center Aqualab

 

Will be trained by park staff to work independently to take care of turtles that reside in the Aqualab. Duties would consist of cleaning the water and food dishes, cleaning of tank glass, proper feeding including removal of uneaten food, moistening of box turtle substrate. Exercise of turtles (optional if you have time) Talking to visitors about the turtle care program

 

Time Requirements: Up to three hours of your time if you include turtle exercise Basic care takes about one to one and a half hours There is a shift for every day of the week Duties can be performed between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Position Description:

Greet all visitors, answer questions, provide program information, provide information about the Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC), Presque Isle State Park (PISP), and Erie Bluffs State Park (EBSP) Direct questions regarding the local area and attractions to the Visit Erie staff when available. Assist with signing in guests for park office use or partner business. Provide visitors with interactive materials and program materials. Upon visitor request you can provide tours of the Aqua Lab and/or Natural History Collection Museum. Parent or guardian must be present with minors Assist with folding brochures, making buttons, cutting out programming materials and other tasks that park staff may need assistance with. Assist Park staff offsite at local events such as sport shows, community events, and other opportunities.

 

Time Requirements: There will be two shifts to cover at the desk: 10:00am-1:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm Volunteers must arrive 5 minutes prior to the shift time to receive updates from staff or previous volunteers. Tom Ridge Environmental Center hours are, April 1 – October 31 open daily 8:00 am to

4:00 pm.  November 1 – March 31 open Tuesday -Saturday 8:00am to 4:00 pm.

3 to 4 hours for offsite events may be expected.
