Opportunities From: Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources

Behind the Masker Museum is our Native Plant display garden. We are looking for a few select volunteers with experience with plant ID and care. Work includes transplanting, landscaping, weeding, mulching, seed collection, and more. Other areas include the gardens around our office and the facilities at the Day-use picnic area.
Work hours depend on staff shifts, garden needs, and new projects. Contact the park office for more information.

This program monitors species that nest in cavities, such as Eastern Bluebirds, Tree or Swallows, House Wrens, Flycatchers, Purple Martins, Tufted Titmouse, and Chickadees.

Volunteers monitor boxes for eggs, fledglings, species type, box quality, and predation issues. Records are collected and added to research for the whole state. This program requires some regular dedication and might involve some messy work, such as removing invasive House Sparrow nests.

Our maintenance team works hard but it's often difficult to get to our trails on the regular, especially some of the harder hikes. Volunteers can help us keep an eye on trail conditions, do some light trim work, clean up trash, and remove minor obstacles. Notify the park staff for downed trees or other issues. With this program you choose a section of trail and take care of it for whatever time fits your schedule to keep our trails looking beautiful!

The Masker Museum is divided into 2 sections that feature environmental education and the history of the CCC at Promised Land. It's located between Pickerel Point and Deerfield Campgrounds and offers visitors hands on activities, rain or shine. 

Volunteers staff the museum during the season in weekly shifts from Memorial Day until Labor Day; shifts are from 10a-1pm & 1pm-4pm. A volunteer usually picks 1 shift on 1 day consistently for the season, but we are flexible and there is room for an occasional fill-in, especially on weekends. Volunteers must display a friendly and courteous attitude, enjoy working with people and kids, set up and take down the bird feeders, stock the museum pamphlets and materials, and keep count of the attendees.

The Friends of Codorus State Park assist the park with projects and fundraising.  There is a variety of opportunities for all abilities!

Help with the annual First Day Hike.

Codorus has over 12 miles of equestrian trails within the park.  Volunteers are needed to help maintain the trails by trimming and pruning, as well as larger projects. 

Codorus is home to a 54-hole disc golf course.  Volunteers are needed to assist with trimming and maintaining the course.

Codorus maintains over 9 miles of mountain bike trails.  Volunteers are needed to help trim, prune, rake and remove obstacles. 

Drop off/Pick up/delivery of single stream plastic for bags to benches program.

Volunteer to help coordinate and perform the first day hike. Help with registration, hiking, and cleanup.

Perform trail maintenance at Sawmill Trail. Maintenance ranges from weed whacking, blazing, planting trees, trimming brush, and picking litter.

Perform trail maintenance at Trinity Gorge. Maintenance ranges from weed whacking, blazing, planting trees, trimming brush, and picking litter.

Perform trail maintenance at Wild Creek. Maintenance ranges from weed whacking, blazing, planting trees, trimming brush, and picking litter.

Assist park staff with the annual First Day Hike and 5k Fun Run. IE: assist with registration or acting as a sweep on the hike or a pace leader on the run. Since this is an outdoor program, please dress for the weather and be in communication if the weather or roads are less than ideal.

Assist in one of many ways with this long-standing event. Activities vary but usually include ice skating, xc skiing, snowshoeing, bird walks, nature crafts, nestbox building, and more

Our native plant gardens at the park office are always in need of weeding and trimming.  Volunteers can help at their leisure when available. 

Codorus provides nest boxes for many birds, including bluebirds, tree swallows and purple martins.  Throughout the year we monitor what is happening inside those boxes, contributing to a national database of information.  Volunteers are needed to inspect boxes weekly, April-October.  Generally,lly a volunteerunteer is given 10-20 boxes in a small area (less than a 1-milemile walk), which typically takes about 1 hour/week to monitor. 

Wildlife Watchers on the Water volunteers assist with evening, 1.5 hour programs leading visitors in guided kayak tours of Lake Marburg. These tours typically occur weekly from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  If you enjoy kayaking and viewing wildlife, this is a great way to share that passion with others. 

Assistance is always needed with cleaning up the park. This is a great way to get outdoors and help the park! Litter pickers and trash bags may be available while volunteering 

Our campground hosts enjoy 2-week sessions in the campground assisting others.  Duties include interacting with campers and answering questions as well as tidying up sites before new visitors arrive. 

Codorus State Park has 2 main hiking trails that need trimmed and maintained throughout the season.  Equipment (loppersrs, pruners, etc.) may be available for use while volunteering. 

Support educational programming highlighting the night sky resource and astronomy. While being friendly and helpful is required, specific knowledge of astronomy or telescopes is not. This opportunity provides a chance to help park visitors while advancing your knowledge in the topic and/or how to operate a telescope for programs.

Fisherman's Trail is just under one mile of gravel trail that connects the main Boat Launch to the Swimming Pool parking lot. The main duty for this trail is trash cleanup.

Creek trail is a 1.5 mile trail through the western part of our park. It has numerous springs and wet areas and is popular with our wildlife watchers and dog walkers. This trail will need occasional trimming with pruners as well as regular trash pickup, especially during fishing season.

Middle Ridge trail is a 2.5 mile trail along the North ridge of the park. This trail is our most demanding trail in terms of maintenance. It will need regular trimming with pruners and/or loppers, which we can provide. Volunteers for this trail will be expected to walk it monthly, and it would be best to break the trail into two sections to work on when doing trim work in the spring and summer.

Spur trail is a 0.5 mile trail from the campground down to Little Buffalo Road and the lake. It is not a loop. This trail will need occasional pruning and trash clean up. It is one of our lower-maintenance trails. 

Help the friends group in the conservation garden. Duties include weeding, pruning, moving brush, and general care taking of the garden.
