Rothrock State Forest will be hosting a chainsaw training class for volunteers. The chainsaw class will begin promptly at 8:00 am and last until 12:00. The class will be held at the New Alan Seeger picnic area just beyond the pavilions. You must register through the volunteer website to attend the chainsaw class as there is a limit of 15 participants. Registration ends on June 18, 2026.
The course will cover proper PPE when operating, chainsaw safety, limbing, bucking, and brushing. Participants may bring their own saws, but safety gear is required for everyone operating a saw. There will be chaps and hard hats available for participants to use during the class.
The safety gear that is required to participate in the class is listed below.
- Hard hat
- Eye Protection
- Chaps
- Pants
- Proper footwear - leather boots
Please remember to bring the following items on the day of the class to participate:

Fuel + oil for the chainsaw
Chaps
Hard Hat
Leather Boots

Eye protection
Hearing protection

***There are a limited number of chaps and hard hats that the DCNR will have for participants to use during the class. Participants will be required to share the DCNR provided PPE among fellow classmates if the need is there.***
There is a makeup day for this course if the weather postpones it. The makeup date for the course is June 26 at 8:00 am.
