Our hosts enjoy 2-week session in the campground assisting others.  Duties include interacting with campers and answering questions as well as tidying up sites before new visors arrive.

Beltzville State Park roadsided side clean-up!

Raise awareness on invasive aquatic pests and help to prevent their spread. This oppurtunity is to help staff the boat wash station at Pine Run Boat Launch on weekends Memorial day to Labor Day. Shift is flexible. Preferred hours are between noon and 8pm Saturdays and Sundays. Training provided. Please contact park directly to schedule. 610-377-0045

A completely on-you-own activity! Pick up sticks anywhere in the park that has manicured lawn (day use and picnic areas). Toss them into the woods or put them in piles already created by staff and volunteers. Submit your hours and tell us what area you covered. That's it! Year-round, anytime you'd like! 

We have approximately 150 young trees that need checked, some straightened in their tubes and possibly some tubes removed. We also may have trees to plant in the coming months. Please sign up for this opportunity if you have an interest in planting, regardless of your availability. Plantings or care can occur during a volunteer event or on your own time. We will email all who are interested if we get additional trees to plant. 

A rather steep boundary trail that passes through areas of mountain laurel, Geyer Trail starts along Aughwick Road and continues up the mountain.

North Logging can be accessed by Knobsville Road trail or Horseshoe trail. Doe trail can be accessed by lot #5 or North Logging Road trail.

Both trails can be accessed by Knobsville Road Trail or Aughwick Road. 

Trail encircles Cowans Gap Lake.

The trail starts at the intersection of Tuscarora Trail below the park dam and climbs to the
top of Cove Mountain - switchbacks have been added.

One mile trail begins along Aughwick Road just above park office, then winds along the bottom of Tuscarora Mountain to join the Three Mile Trail. Three mile trail wonders through the Tuscarora mountain side and combines up with Plessinger Trail on the other side of Aughwick Road (new trail addition).

Friends of Prince Gallitzin State Park website are a non-profit all volunteer organization under the umbrella of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) dedicated to the betterment of Prince Gallitzin State Park.    Come experience the Prince Gallitzin State Park and enjoy the many activities sponsored by the Friends of Prince Gallitzin State Park.

This is a handraising opportunity for being a campground host with Worlds End State Park. Registering for this opportunity alone will NOT register you for a timeslot as a host. These are sent seperately as the schedule is made. Background clearances must be physically submitted as part of the vetting process.

This opportunity is related to goose management. The park experiences an influx of Canada geese every year that can disrupt the environmental balance. Volunteers are invited to help keep the park clean and enjoyable by assisting with the removal of goose droppings from high-use areas. This effort helps improve visitor experience, protects natural resources, and supports overall park maintenance. All necessary tools and guidance will be provided—just bring a willingness to lend a hand and enjoy time outdoors.

This opportunity is for all general activities that help keep our day-use picnic area, beaches, roadways, and waters clean.

Join a fun-loving group focused mainly on Purple Martin Nest Monitoring. There are several locations throughout the park and a location will be assigned to you. Trail Stewards are volunteers who take time out of their lives to help improve trail systems in our local forests and parks. Their role in trail maintenance allows members of the public to have a positive experience while enjoying the trails. Rothrock State Forest has a Trail Stewardship program where individuals, groups, or sports teams can be assigned a trail to work on that year.

Volunteers help care for Bald Eagle State Park by removing litter and refuse along the park’s 17.6 miles of trails, park boundaries, and surrounding roadways. Cleanup efforts may also include fishing line removal to protect wildlife and maintain a safe, healthy environment for visitors. This work plays an important role in preserving the park’s natural resources, improving visitor safety, and keeping the park clean and welcoming for all.

The Trail Maintenance & Stewardship Volunteer assists Colonel Denning State Park maintenance staff with the upkeep, repair, and stewardship of designated park trails. Working under staff supervision, the volunteer helps ensure trails are safe, sustainable, clearly marked, and enjoyable for public use while supporting overall park cleanliness and resource protection.

Working with a lead volunteer to maintain District Trails in the R.B. Winter State Park Area. Trail work is typically conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Work involves brush cutting, raking, clearing and tread enhancement of trails throughout the year.

This program monitors species that nest in cavities, such as Eastern Bluebirds, Tree or Swallows, House Wrens, Flycatchers, Purple Martins, Tufted Titmouse, and Chickadees.

Volunteers monitor boxes for eggs, fledglings, species type, box quality, and predation issues. Records are collected and added to research for the whole state. This program requires some regular dedication and might involve some messy work, such as removing invasive House Sparrow nests.

The Masker Museum is divided into 2 sections that feature environmental education and the history of the CCC at Promised Land. It's located between Pickerel Point and Deerfield Campgrounds and offers visitors hands on activities, rain or shine. 

Volunteers staff the museum during the season in weekly shifts from Memorial Day until Labor Day; shifts are from 10a-1pm & 1pm-4pm. A volunteer usually picks 1 shift on 1 day consistently for the season, but we are flexible and there is room for an occasional fill-in, especially on weekends. Volunteers must display a friendly and courteous attitude, enjoy working with people and kids, set up and take down the bird feeders, stock the museum pamphlets and materials, and keep count of the attendees.

Behind the Masker Museum is our Native Plant display garden. We are looking for a few select volunteers with experience with plant ID and care. Work includes transplanting, landscaping, weeding, mulching, seed collection, and more. Other areas include the gardens around our office and the facilities at the Day-use picnic area.

Help monitor bluebirds and other species nesting in over 40 cavity nest boxes throughout the park. Volunteers check each box weekly and record data that is then compiled and included in the Statewide Cavity Nesting Report.

Trail maintenance done on Michaux State Forest. Maintenance must be done only to state forest recognized trails. Training is required to blaze and brush trails.

Susquehannock State Forest is looking for volunteers to become trail stewards to reestablish/maintain the many miles of "multi-use" red blazed trails, and "hiking only" yellow blazed trails, within the district. We are looking for "multi-use" and "hiking only" stewards to adopt any hiking/multi-use trails in our district. Trail System Stewards traverse their assigned trails quarterly. This would include brushing, blazing, reporting downed trees, and benching any of the multi-use and hiking trails in the Susquehannock State Forest.  Please note, only volunteers with chainsaw certifications may cut trees off of the trail. Volunteers, please call 814-320-4916 with your request to adopt a trail before performing any work. 

The Outpost, campground store run by the FOCSP, needs attendants to help with firewood and retail sales to campers.

One of the largest fundraisers for the park is selling firewood to campers.  We need assistance cutting, splitting and stacking firewood.

Codorus Trick-or-Treat is a large fundraising event held 2 nights in October each year.  Assistance is needed with set-up, day of the event, and tear down.

This opportunity supports the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat while contributing to long-term conservation and education efforts.

Volunteers staff the entrance or exit of the Bear Hole Trail Drive-Thru program at Swatara State Park. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, reviewing program rules, explaining park attributes and points of interest along the trail, managing traffic flow, and helping ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants. Volunteers will also keep attendance records of program participants. The program operates from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the second Friday and Saturday of each month, and on the fourth Friday and Saturday during March, April, September, and October. The Drive-Thru does not operate from December through February.

This position is for potential hosts at Little Buffalo State Park. Signing up for this opportunity does not guarantee you a position, it just allows you to be on our waiting list for an open position for the 2026 season. You will be emailed when there are openings that you can apply for. This is NOT for the 2027 season, so please do not sign up if you are unavailable for this current year. Another opportunity is created for the 2027 season, and you may sign up to be on that list. 

Our campground host duties are fairly simple. Hosts are expected to be fully available during peak hours of camping (Friday evening through Sunday morning, within reasonable hours) and available during the week as needed. Hosts are primarily in charge of placing and removing permits, greeting guests, pick up trash, tidy restrooms if needed, and kindly reminding folks of rules. They are also required to notify law enforcement of any violations they witness during their stay. Hosts will also be asked to occassionally stack wood on the front porch of our firewood shed as needed and may be asked to assist with any festivals or environmental education activities during their stay. 

Hosts may be permitted to leave for periods of time as long as they notify rangers and/or management of their absence. Hosts may be asked to kindly remind visitors of rules when needed, but not to enforce them. Hosts must be role models for other campers - any pets must remain on leash or fenced in (or remain safely in the camper), hosts must wear shirts during their stay, and hosts MUST remain courteous and kind to all visitors at all times. Hosts must NOT engage in visitors that are overly disruptive or potentially dangerous - hosts need to notify rangers or local police to deal with any and all major disturbances. 

Our campground has 5 primitive (walk-to) sites, 43 campsites (roughly half are electric and 2 are paved/ADA accessible). We have one host site, so the position is a bit competitive. Sites 42 and 43 that are ADA accessible also have sewage hook ups in addition to electric. Due to our water situation, NONE of our sites have water at the site. 

**Water Situation**

Please keep in mind that there is no water at our park's campsites at this time. There will not be for some time. We will use a potable water tanker to haul water to the campground, and you may choose to fill your tank at a fill station at the park office or with the tanker beside the bath house prior to going to your site. If you need to refill during your stay, you will have to move your camper in order to do that. For that reason, we are allowing 2 week stays for hosts as well as the normal month-long assignments. The host site is located beside the newer (built in 2019) bath house. The bath house has nice showers and a large sink in the back for dish washing. Water is not drinkable but is safe for showering and cleaning dishes with. Hosts must NOT engage in visitors that are overly disruptive or potentially dangerous - hosts need to notify rangers or local police to deal with any and all major disturbances. 

Our campground has 5 primitive (walk-to) sites, 43 campsites (roughly half are electric and 2 are paved/ADA accessible). We have one host site, so the position is a bit competitive. Sites 42 and 43 that are ADA accessible also have sewage hook ups in addition to electric. Due to our water situation, NONE of our sites have water at the site. 

**Water Situation** Please keep in mind that there is no water at our park's campsites at this time. There will not be for some time. We will use a potable water tanker to haul water to the campground, and you may choose to fill your tank at a fill station at the park office or with the tanker beside the bath house prior to going to your site. If you need to refill during your stay, you will have to move your camper in order to do that. For that reason, we are allowing 2 week stays for hosts as well as the normal month-long assignments. The host site is located beside the newer (built in 2019) bath house. The bath house has nice showers and a large sink in the back for dish washing. Water is not drinkable but is safe for showering and cleaning dishes with. Our Friends of Little Buffalo is actively seeking someone to assist with searching for and applying for grants for projects in the park. No experience is needed, but some background knowledge of grants is definitely helpful. We will mostly be working with historical type grants to allow us to find funding for our historical projects, as well as ADA grants to improve accessibility in the park. 

Interested in learning more about gardening with native plants? Volunteer to mulch, pull weeds, divide plants, and amend soil in the center's native plant garden. We provide instruction, tools, and weeding mats. This is a seasonal opportunity.

2026 Schedule

This opportunity will occur every Monday from March 23 - September 28, 2026, with the exception of April 20th. Other dates may be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, please pay attention to your email, you will be notified in advance. 

We are looking for Donut Hole and Chuck Keiper Trail System Stewards to adopt sections of the two state forest hiking trails in our district. Trail System Stewards traverse their assigned trails quarterly. Stewards will brush trails; report downed trees and perform other routine maintenance such as benching and blazing. To adopt a trail section, please call our district office at 570-923-6011 after signing up.

From time to time the park educators see a need for handcrafted items to share with audiences.  This could be small weaving looms, representations of animals, historic toys. Including things that answer the question: "How did children play or learn about nature before electronics?" Put your name on this list, along with your skills and interests so we can find you. Our Heritage Festival, the last full weekend of September will be one event that may utilize your skills.

DCNR staff will perform evaluations of performance and provide feedback for development.

Help us learn more about our past! There are opportunities for individuals to help the park through research. This would be mostly on your own through the use of a computer or historical societies. No expertise needed! A good wintertime activity or for those who enjoy local history.

Building and maintaining the section of the Mason Dixon Trail that goes through Susquehanna Riverlands State Park. 

Join DCNR staff and partners to clean up the Susquehanna River Flood Plain in Susquehanna Riverlands State Park. There will be 2 or 3 dates in the year that we will meet as a group to do this work.

Many miles of the hiking trails in Moraine State Park are a part of the North Country Trail Association (NCTA), Butler Chapter. Discover training opportunities and help maintain the trail as part of this dedicated group of volunteers. We are looking for volunteers!  Would you like to be a trail adopter? The Friends of the Pennsylvania White Clay Creek Preserve is a volunteer community service organization committed to supporting the Preserve through improvement/maintenance projects, educational programs, and fundraising. It was chartered by a group of concerned citizens to support the Preserve in March 2012, and in 2019 they launched a subcommittee, London Tract Historical Committee, to address the historical structures within the park.

The Friends is a local chapter of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping all of Pennsylvania’s state parks, forests, and preserves. In 2022 the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources estimates that 214,469 people visited the White Clay Creek Preserve.

Memorial Lake State Park has over 2 miles of trails and there may be an opportunity for you to assist with keeping them clean, clear, and accessible to park visitors.
