Volunteer: Camp Host 2026 - Promised Land State Park

The campground host is a volunteer position at 1 of the 6 campgrounds at Promised Land State Park (Deerfield, Pickerel Point, Pines, Beechwood, Northwoods, and Rhododendron). Each campground varies in the number of camp sites, ranging from 33 at our smallest campground and 106 at our largest.  There are no full hook up Host sites available; all sites except Deerfield are electric only with water spigots nearby.

Volunteers will serve as a “live-in” host and are expected to perform a variety of tasks as outlined in the principal duties and responsibilities. Camp Hosts must display a friendly and courteous attitude, be able to communicate effectively with the public and keep campers informed, enjoy working with people, and preform moderate physical labor.

Due to the popularity of our campground host program and the need to meet various park operational goals, we strive to ensure that all host positions are filled during the camping season. Therefore, potential hosts may be asked to move to different campground areas if staying for consecutive 4-week periods.

Campground Host(s) will be required to provide their own camping unit, and any necessary camping equipment and personal items. Personal vehicles will be allowed at the host site with a limit of two vehicles not including the camping unit- (i.e., camper).

More details are in the Promised Land State Park Camp Host Job Description document.

Volunteer: Twinkle, Twinkle... What's Up Above Me; Night Sky Viewing, Indigenous Star Stories, and the Perseids!

Step away from the glow of the city and into the ancient darkness of Rothrock State Forest for an evening that bridges worlds. As the Perseids meteor shower peaks overhead — one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year — we'll gather at Hawk's View to watch the sky come alive with streaks of light that have captivated humans for millennia.

Join us as we explore the rich tapestry of Indigenous star stories: how Native peoples read the night sky not simply as navigation, but as memory, prophecy, and living narrative. The same stars you'll see tonight have guided, inspired, and connected generations long before written history — and their stories deserve to be heard beneath an open sky.

Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or lying on a blanket for the very first time, this is a night to look up, listen deeply, and feel the wonder that the universe places freely before us.

Location: Rothrock State Forest

Step away from the glow of the city and into the ancient darkness of Rothrock State Forest for an evening that bridges worlds. As the Perseids meteor shower peaks overhead — one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year — we'll gather at Hawk's View to watch the sky come alive with streaks of light that have captivated humans for millennia.

Volunteer: Friends of Nolde Forest Official Volunteer Opportunities 2026

Are you an active member of the Friends of Nolde Forest (https://www.friendsofnoldeforest.org/) who is participating in FoNF Volunteer Events (or plans to in the future)? Then THIS is the opportunity for you.

Although the FoNF utilize the Track it Forward volunteer system, we still need ALL volunteers on DCNR property to be signed up through our system. You do that by signing up as a volunteer of THIS opportunity.

If you are not signed up as a volunteer for this opportunity you are not permitted to volunteer for any FoNF Events happening at the EE Center.

You will continue to track your hours on Track it Forward, but the Friends Chair will share the Track it Forward volunteer report with me on a monthly basis so I can upload the hours here as well. This means, once you sign up here, you are done. Just use Track it Forward and the data will be transferred for you.

(however, if you sign up to volunteer for a non-FoNF related opportunity like trail crew, you will need to track those  hours on this website)

Volunteer: Adopt-a-Trail 2026 - Varden Conservation Area

Our maintenance team works hard but it's often difficult to get to our trails on the regular, especially some of the harder hikes. Volunteers can help us keep an eye on trail conditions, do some light trim work, clean up trash, and remove minor obstacles. Notify the park staff for downed trees or other issues. With this program you choose a section of trail and take care of it for whatever time fits your schedule to keep our trails looking beautiful!
