Volunteer: Dog Walk and Prune - Varden Conservation Area

Bring your dog and a pair of hand pruners out to Varden to meet up with the Friends Group. This will be a casual walk with some light trail maintenance.

Willows, pricker bushes, and other vegetation tends to grow in quickly and reach over trails, but a few snips keeps them in check. Volunteers should bring some hand clippers/loppers or other hand tools. Dress for the weather and remember tick spray for yourself and your furry friend.

Meet at the Tannery Tract, contact Promised Land State Park or the Friends of Varden Conservation Area for extra info.

Volunteer: Varden Conservation Day - Community Friends' Group Event - Varden Conservation Area

Varden Conservation Day is a celebration of the history and natural value of Varden Conservation Area. This event is open to the public and hosts music, food, a kids' fishing derby, and speakers (including 1 with live animals!); it takes place at the Tannery Tract picnic area.

Volunteers are needed to help Park Staff and the Friends of Varden with parking, manning tables, helping kids at the fishing derby, set up, and clean up.

The opportunity's shift for the day prior is for anyone to enter hours they took to bake donations for the Bake Sale table, set up signs, or spread the word about the event. This is a catch-all shift for prep and planning in the weeks leading up to the event.

Please contact Promised Land State Park or the Friends of Varden for more information.

Volunteer: Adopt-a-Trail 2026 - Varden Conservation Area

Our maintenance team works hard but it's often difficult to get to our trails on the regular, especially some of the harder hikes. Volunteers can help us keep an eye on trail conditions, do some light trim work, clean up trash, and remove minor obstacles. Notify the park staff for downed trees or other issues. With this program you choose a section of trail and take care of it for whatever time fits your schedule to keep our trails looking beautiful!
