Varden Conservation Area

Who We Are

The land was donated by Dr. Mead Shaffer so that future generations can explore the natural beauty and historic significance of the area. Both tracts consist of 444 acers of hiking trails through old farmland, pine plantations, open fields, and forested areas. Tannery tract has a small fishing pond, pavilion, and an ADA trail. The diverse range of habitats provides volunteer opportunities for trail maintenance and different habitat conservation projects. 

What We Do

DCNR’s mission is to conserve and sustain Pennsylvania’s natural resources for present and future generations’ use and enjoyment.
