VOLUNTEER POSITION
Volunteer Position Title: Turtle Care
Site: Tom Ridge Environmental Center Aqualab
- Will be trained by park staff to work independently to take care of turtles that reside in the Aqualab.
- Duties would consist of cleaning the water and food dishes, cleaning of tank glass, proper feeding including removal of uneaten food, moistening of box turtle substrate.
- Exercise of turtles (optional if you have time)
- Talking to visitors about the turtle care program
Time Requirements:
- Up to three hours of your time if you include turtle exercise
- Basic care takes about one to one and a half hours
- There is a shift for every day of the week
- Duties can be performed between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Skills/Training:
- Training will be provided
- Must have an appreciation for turtles and other wildlife.
- Feel comfortable talking to small groups
- Safety awareness for public and turtles
- Understanding of DCNR and its mission
Uniform:
- Uniform vests or T-shirts with name tag will be provided with DCNR Conservation Volunteer logo and must be worn during your work shift
- Shirt and pants should be of neutral colors (white, tan, black)
Evaluation:
DCNR staff will perform evaluations of performance and provide feedback for development.
